1. Will hiring someone with a disability cost a lot?
Accommodations , if necessary, are usually very inexpensive. They may range from modifying how an employee structures his/her day to adjustments of the workstation which may include a sit/stand stool, raising a desk, enlarging the display settings on a computer screen or the use of a magnifier.

2. Will I have to hire an unqualified employee if I want to hire someone with a disability?
People with disabilities represent a large, untapped pool of talent. Triumph wil carefully assess your hiring needs and recommend candidates with appropriate skills, abilities and personality traits for your business.

3. How do I know if my worksite is accessible?
We have a checklist to help us determine if your workplace is accessible and we're happy to provide information on easy ways to make make accommodations for people with disabilities.

4. Will it take a lot of time? I don't have any extra time to train.
Our Triumph team is available to assist with the training of your new employee. Initially, this training may be on a full-time basis. Supported employment is a process of ensuring that the employer is not burdened by expensive training. It's a hands-on approach meant to allow for a smooth transition into vocational pursuits for both the employer and employee.

5. Will all of my staff need special training to learn how to work with people with disabilities?
You would probably be amazed to know that 20% of the general population is made up of persons with disabilities, so you probably already have employees with disabilities in your workplace. Triumph can provide you with special training on how to work with people with disabilities, but often it is simply a matter of getting to know the person as you would any other staff member and discovering how they communicate, learn and interact with others.

6. How will I know if someone with a disability could meet the needs of the job?
A Triumph Vocational Coach will help you determe if the job is appropriate for a person with a disability. Work experiences provide an excellent opportunity to explore this issue. Why not opt for a two-week trial? There is no pressure to hire the client if he/she is not a good match for the job.

7. Will I have to provide full-time work?
No. In fact, many Triumph clients will only be seeking part-time employment.

8. What can I legally ask about a person's disability?
The only questions you can legally ask a person about his or her disability are ones that relate to the ability to perform essential duties of the job.

9. What are my risks if I need to let an employee go from a job - with cause or without cause?
The employer's risks when terminating a person with a disability are the same as they are for terminating an employee who does not have a disability - as long as the reason for termination is not related to the employee's disability. If the reason is related to the person's disability, then accommodations should be considered as an option first.

10. What is Supported Employment?
Supported Employment is based on the idea that with support, individuals are better able to achieve their vocational goals. It is an individualized process where clients work one-on-one with a Triumph Vocational Coach to explore vocational opportunities. The client and Coach work collaboratively to determine what skills and abilities are required for various occupations. What may appear to be a barrier for a client in one job might actually be a positive attribute in a different position.

The assumption is that all persons with disabilities have the capacity to meaningfully contribute to vocational pursuits. If necessary, ongoing support is provided to both the client and the employer. Should a client's job description change or if they are promoted, Vocational Coaches are available to provide support and training through the transition.

11. How does Triumph's process work?
Initially, clients work one-on-one with a Vocational Coach to improve disability management and develop employability skills. Once clients are ready to pursue employment, our Triumph team helps them find appropriate placements and supports them throughout the process as required.
