Triumph Vocational Services When you feel good...You do Well A Triumph Vocational Services™ Success Story • October 2004 When Cathy McKenzie first started the Triumph program, she “felt vulnerable with a disability.” Today, Cathy feels better because she’s working and contributing. The journey in between was a “fantastic ride.”Cathy was jaded from previous job placement experiences, so she was hesitant about the Triumph program. One of the first things Cathy noticed at Triumph was the way the workers made her feel special and respected. She liked that and it helped allay her fears. With such positive treatment, Cathy relaxed and enjoyed the job search process. Cathy noticed how Triumph staff systematically narrowed down the work options based on her interests and abilities. They didn’t focus on her disability; they worked on her abilities, allowing her to achieve her goal of finding a job she could do well. Cathy had learned what she wanted in a job, so she was able to choose a good fit.Working for Tim Horton’s was perfect for her. She needed a job experience position, and her placement counselor stepped right in and got one for her. Cathy did very well, and she said the experience helped her “relax and grow into the job,” leaving her feeling more confident. Because of her good work, Cathy was offered a part-time job. She was thrilled. Today, Cathy’s life is different. Her financial position is better, and so is she. She said her friends think she is “more assertive and stronger,” able to tackle anything. Cathy advises newcomers to Triumph to “be confident” because “these people can help.” “Triumph was dynamic in encouraging Chris and finding him employment on his own terms,” says Trevor Lane, Chris’s father. “They have an awful lot of experience finding the right match” Thanks to Triumph, Cathy’s life is different. She is more assertive and is able to tackle anything. Success on your own terms |
