Employment Counselling
Through one-on-one employment counselling with a Vocational Coach, clients examine their interests, talents and personal skills and identify appropriate career matches.
Informational interviews
At Triumph, we believe that informational interviews can be a key method of helping a client decide on an appropriate career path. Our Vocational Coaches arrange for informal discussions between clients and individuals who work in areas of interest to allow the client to learn about the position, the skills required, the day-to-day activities of the job, and to determine the match of skills and abilities to the career.
Job/Task Analysis
With guidance from Vocational Coaches, clients can explore and analyze specific job tasks related to their selected employment choice. A profile of the selected employment choice may include main job tasks, education and training required, working conditions, BC employment trends and average earnings. This process ensures realistic employment goal-setting.
Labour Market Information
What is the labour market outlook for your chosen career? We engage our clients in three types of activities in order to find the answer to this very important question:
- Labour Market Research Worksheets: this series of interactive exercises helps clients actively participate in researching the labour market
- Skill Gap Worksheet: by comparing the Labour Market research obtained by eachcClient to his/her current skill set, we can effectively determine what skills each client must gain or improve upon in order to attain his/her employment goals.
- Labour Market Research Workshop: this optional workshop is for clients who need some support to complete their Labour Market Research Worksheets. Our Workshop Facilitators assist clients to collect, analyze and use labour market information that is relevant to their own community.
Disability Accommodations and Supports
We realize that in order for our clients to successfully participate in our planning and employment services, they may require some assistance. Triumph's accommodation assistance is based on our clients' needs and may include assistive technologies, restorative devices, adaptive furnishings, customized software and more. It might also include modifications to accomodate learning style, use of a sit/stand stool, or other inexpensive ways to help clients reach their goals. Triumph staff will consult the appropriate agencies for devices or adjustments. Government funding may also be available. Read more about accommodations.
Identifying Potential Training
During the planning and assessment phase, our Vocational Coaches work with each client to determine if there is a skill gap that needs to be addressed with training. Training activities may include but are not limited to:
- Working with employers to create a Training-on-the-Job (TOJ) experience. TOJ provides the opportunity to engage in productive work that provides knowledge or skills essential to the full and adequate performance of a job
- Purchasing market offered employment-related training
- Accessing alternate sources of funding for tuition, books and supplies for job-related training
Completion of a Plan
Upon completion of all relevant planning activities, clients work with their Vocational Coaches to develop a detailed Action Plan which includes a vision, goals, potential training opportunities and measurable, realistic outcomes.
