Triumph Vocational Services Beating the Odds A Triumph Vocational Services™ Success Story • June, 2005 In just a few short months, Deena Sherart went from wondering how to find a job to running a women’s clothing store on her own.During the 90s, Deena was being treated for a brain tumour, which involved three operations and eight weeks of radiation treatment. With serious medical problems and the challenges of raising small children, Deena spent nearly a decade unemployed. When her children reached school age, she was determined to return to the work force and knew she needed some help. That’s when she turned to Triumph Vocational Services, which helps people with disabilities return to the work force. Deena has since overcome many of her medical issues and is enjoying stable health. At Triumph, Deena learned how to prepare an effective resume and how to tackle job interviews. The Triumph staff helped match Deena’s skills with the right job and the right employer. Deena began a six-week work experience term at Les Grandes Dames, a women’s consignment clothing store in Surrey. She now helps owner Ramona McNeil run the store and manages the operation herself on Tuesdays. Deena’s recommendation to people who wonder if Triumph is the right solution for them, “You have to go and do it. You’ll see how much help Triumph is and how much easier it will be for you.” For employers considering working with Triumph, Ramona, Deena’s employer, has this advice. “Don’t have tunnel vision that a person with a disability can’t do a job for you. Triumph works with you. They want it to work for you as much as for them.” “Triumph works with you. They want it to work for you as much as for them.” Success on your own terms |
