With the help of Triumph Vocational Services Tammy found the ideal job

A Triumph Vocational Services™ Success Story • May, 2005

It’s hard enough finding a job, but what do you do if you need to avoid dust and other allergens due to chronic asthma. That was the situation Tammy Chambers faced. With the help of Triumph Vocational Services, Tammy found the ideal job. “I know I wouldn’t have been successful without their support,” she says. She now works in a pharmacy free of the dust and other allergens that keep her on medication for seven or eight months of every year.

When Tammy first decided to become a pharmacy technician, she needed help for the 10-month training program. Triumph Vocational Services assisted her by arranging payment of her tuition fees at the Academy of Learning in Campbell River.

Tammy worked hard at her courses and finished at the top of her class with a 93% average. She graduated last September, and then the staff at Triumph helped her find a two-week work experience position at the pharmacy on Quadra Island, a 10-minute ferry ride from Campbell River.

By the end of the two-week period, the pharmacy hired her to work a four-day week. Tammy assists the pharmacist to fill prescriptions, order stock and deal with customers.

“I love it,” she says. “I feel like I’m actually helping people, and educating them about pharmaceuticals and health care.” Best of all, she works in a clean environment free of allergens.

“I can’t say enough about Tammy,” says Cindy Bukach, Tammy’s job coach at Triumph Vocational Services in Campbell River. “She was easy to work with, and cheerful even when stressed.”

“The Triumph experience was phenomenal,” says Tammy. “They were very supportive and uplifting. They were my cheering section.”
